This photograph album, with dimensions 10 1/2 x 13 x 1 3/4 inches, contains fifty gelatin silver prints taken in the 1890s related to the Brown family, thirty-nine of which are identified and commented upon by the son or daughter of Bessie Belle (Woodard) Brown and Louis H. Brown on a separate typewritten sheet. Photographs document family life, rural farms, and domestic, religious, public, and commercial buildings, including properties in: Loudon, New Hampshire("Brown Family Farm," Town Hall); Canterbury, New Hampshire ("Foster Farm"); Hanover, New Hampshire (Dartmouth College); Loudon Center, New Hampshire (unidentified church, unidentified schoolhouse); Portland, Maine (Longfellow statue, Portland railroad station, port and dock area, including view with a large paddle steamer); Leominster, Massachusetts; and Worcester, Massachusetts (10 Kilby Street, Coes Pond). Views of the Dartmouth College campus include two photographs, one of the annotator's father and his brothers (Arthur N. Brown, Karl L. Brown, Walter A. Brown) in an unidentified room, and one of Anson W. Brown in his dormitory room. The album includes informal portraits of Bessie Belle (Woodard) Brown, Louis H. Brown (in his bedroom; holding a shotgun; with Whittall Mills employees), and the annotator's grandmother, Susan Elisabeth (Foster) Brown. A final photograph pictures an outdoor skeet shooting party attended, among others, by two of the Brown brothers.
