ca. 1920
GUSN-194044
This album consists of an address given by Marie Josephine Gale to a meeting of the Daughters of the American Revolution, titled "Old Newport Houses," accompanied by photographs illustrating the text. The DAR meeting may have been held in Newport, Rhode Island in 1920. The album includes approximately fifty images taken by Elizabeth Covell (Mrs. W. W. Covell) and "my high school boy," possibly her son. The images include buildings on Church Street, Clarke Street, Spring Street, Pelham Street, Thames Street, North Baptist Street, Broadway, and Washington Square. There is emphasis on details such as doorways. The quality is good. The photographs are accompanied by typed annotations of the history and architectural background of individual buildings.
