GUSN-313822
A bound album containing 98 black and white photographs relating to Swampscott and Mashpee, Massachusetts and North Conway, New Hampshire, dated 1890. The photographs depict mostly the exteriors of houses in Swampscott, beach scenes with boats and rocky shores, town streetscapes, and portraits of children ( identified as Clare, Grace, and Gerturde) and women and men (identifed as Mrs. Stanley, Carlotta, and Mr. Goldsmith) playing croquet. All but the first two photographs have handwirtten labels. Labeled photographs of note include an exterior shot of the mansion of Professor Elihu Thomson (1853-1937), founder of the Thomson-Houston Electric Company (later the General Electric Company); Hotel Attaquin in Mashpee, MA; Kearsage house in North Conway, NH; Marblehead Rock Yacht Club house; Kings Beach; Egg Rock; Blaney's Beach; Lincoln House; a portrait of the fisherman Solomon Abbott; and the exterior of the house of F. F. Stanley (perhaps related to the maker of the album). All photographs are of generally good quality, with some marks from glue.
Also included at the begining of the album are several loose newspaper clippings from 1950s newspapers featuring photographs and articles regarding Swampsocott history, with some clippings about Danvers, Lynn, Marblehead. Also is a four-paneled panoramic postcard of Fisherman's Beach in Swampscott, c. 1922.
