Covers are detached. Stamped "Boston Terminal Co., Boston. John C. Sanborn, and Westinghouse, Church, Kerr and Co. Engineers," suggesting it to have been compiled by or presented by this company, if they were the engineering firm involved in the station's construction. Prints are mounted to canvas. Negative numbers appear in pencil on reverse, also typed and run from 213-301. Photographic vantage point is far closer than in volume a, with sharply detailed veiws of boiler room (1898), engine room, ice plant, heating facilities, ventilation equipment, central heating pumps, signal boards and other equipment. Exterior or architectural coverage is infrequent, though 285-288 document power house construction (?).
See also related collection of photographs compiled by The Boston and Albany Railroad, and recording progress of many construction projects, including South Station and Kneeland St. Station. There may be overlap between these albums, and the a and b collection. Boston and Albany collection is separately filed in Section B. of archives.
