album # 223,224
GUSN-193792
This album, which is in delicate condition, is bound in faded red plush with a metal clasp on the side. The interior contains a series of unidentified portraits of family members, mostly in excellent condition, although a few are somewhat faded. Formats include 20 cabinet cards, 5 tintypes, 3 cartes-de-visite, and 5 loose images. Individual portraits are interspersed with group sittings, several demonstrating a family likeness suggesting a group of brothers. There are several images of mature ladies, one of a child in a pretty white dress, and several of younger members of the family.
It appears that the individuals may have resided in Nashua, New Hampshire, judging by one of the photographers who is identified as J. E. N. Duclos, 123 Main St. Another photographer is identified as A. C. Austin, also of Nashua. In addition there are photographs executed by H. H. Lewis, North Troy, Vermont; Elsam Photographer of Laconia, New Hampshire,, and two from Quebec: J. A. Wheeler and Hanley Sutton. Studio settings include scenery wallpaper, a wicker chair, and other Victorian furniture.
A few loose portraits have been interleaved. Of interest is a calling card printed with the name George D. Taylor with a small portrait of the gentleman affixed. Two other calling cards carry the names Edson M. Skinner and L. R. Mills and are affixed with colorful stickers.
Most of the sitters are shown in business attire and would appear to have been photographed in the late 19th century.
