Accessibility
Tour involves standing, walking, and stairs. Visitors with limited mobility may be able to enjoy a first floor tour of the house. Folding chairs are provided for visitors who would like to use them while on tour. The site is not equipped with ramps, elevators, or lifts. There is a portable restroom onsite. The house is not air-conditioned. Service animals are welcome. We are happy to work with you to make your visit an enjoyable one and we encourage visitors with questions or requests to call ahead.
We are proud to participate in Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture program in collaboration with the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Department of Public Health’s WIC Nutrition Program, the Massachusetts Health Connector.

Coffin House is on Route 1A in Newbury, across from the First Parish Burying Ground.
Parking
Street parking is permitted for short periods of time.
Public Transit/ Rail Trail
Take the MBTA Commuter Rail (Newburyport/Rockport Line) from Boston’s North Station to Newburyport Station. Or take a MEVA bus to the Newburyport MBTA Station. From the station, visitors may walk or rent a bike through Port Bikeshare to reach the Newbury HNE sites.
From the Station to High Street
Exit the station and turn right on Parker Street onto the Clipper City Rail Trail, a flat, paved, multi‑use path. At this point you will be following a sidewalk. Cross Route 1 at the crossing light.
Follow the path as it curves around the rotary, then continues across State Street at the pedestrian light, briefly following Hale Street past the Oak Hill Cemetery, before turning left inland. Continue on the Clipper City Rail Trail for approximately 0.6 miles, until the exit for High Street on the left, just past Marches Hill.
Cross High Street and Turn right, Following the sidewalk. High Street becomes High Road as it continues into Newbury.
All of the Newbury historic homes are located off High Road from Rail Trail: Swett-Illsley House (0.2 miles), Coffin House (0.25 miles), Spencer‑Peirce‑Little Farm (0.7 miles), Dole Little House (3 miles).
