Historical/Biographical Note

Jabez Fisher, a tanner, was the father of George Fisher. George Fisher was the owner and editor of "The Cambridge Chronicle" newspaper from 1859 to 1873, known for printing anti-slavery, temperance, and patriotic articles. He founded the Cambridge Conservatory of Music with his daughter Sarah in 1873, and briefly served in the Massachusetts legislature in 1885.
