Description

Diary of an unidentified architect living in Watertown, Massachusetts. He worked for Sturgis and Brigham, the architectural firm of renowned New England architects Charles Brigham and John Hubbard Sturgis. The diary covers the entire year of 1866. Throughout the year, the architect completed drawings, tracings, elevations, and specifications for projects such as the Codman House in Lincoln, Massachusetts, a masonic temple, the Wadsworth Monument in Geneseo, New York, Barnstable Library, Lowell House, Sturgis House, Taunton Depot and others. The architect also completed some work for architect Gridley J. F. Bryant of the architectural firm Bryant & Associates.

The diary contains entries about the architect's social life. He often played billiards with Brigham, attended church, goes to plays and the opera, and played baseball. Towards the back of the diary are his accounts. This contains information related to income and spending habits. The diary is of particular note as it covers the first year in the partnership of Brigham and Sturgis.
