Framed chromolithograph titled "The Independent Gold Hunter on His Way to California," created by Nathaniel Currier circa 1850. Chromolithograph depicts an inappropriately dressed prospector wearing knee high boots, a knee length coat, a tin pot for a hat, and carrying a suitcase and various tools such as a gold processor and shovel, cookware, and food. A sign in the background reads "To St. Louis, -- 350 Miles. To California, 1700 Ms." The chromolithograph was published by Kelloggs & Comstock in Hartford, Connecticut, and lithographed by D. Needham in Buffalo, New York.
