Joseph Sayward (1684-1741)

Description

This subseries includes a copy of Joseph Sayward's will. Joseph Sayward was born in 1684 and was the son of Jonathan and Mary (Austin) Sayward. In 1709, he married Mary Webber of York, Maine. He was a carpenter and joiner by trade; town records state an authorization in 1721 that "Joseph Sayward shall have the full management to build a sufficient fortification about our parsonage house." Joseph and Mary Sayward had nine children: Mary, Susannah, Jonathan, Hannah, Joseph, Henry, Jeremiah, Merriam, and Nathaniel. Joseph died on December 25, 1741.
