Display designs album, 1926-1950

Description

Cloth bound album measuring 11 x 15 inches containing black-and-white photographs related to Shreve, Crump & Low. These photographs show images of displays created by Kenneth Grey Sears for Shreve, Crump & Low. The album also contains correspondence, news clippings, and printed ephemera. Correspondence was written to Sears from members of the public praising his displays, clients thanking him for his work, and news organizations. The clippings are from news sources such as Harper's Bazaar, the Boston Post, and the Jewelers' Circular Keystone. The album also contains sketches and notes of potential displays completed by Sears.

The majority of the photographs are dated and some have further information written beneath them. All of these notes were completed by the same hand, presumably Sears. Materials in the album are dated 1926-1950. The photographers of the photographs are unknown. The photographs of these displays, as well as the accompanying correspondence, clippings, and printed ephemera, provide insight into the advertising methods used by purveyors of high-end items in Boston from the 1920s to the 1950s.
