The Dennison family business began in 1844 in Brunswick, Maine, they crafted jewelry boxes before shifting to paper tags, labels, and crepe paper.
The Dennison Manufacturing Company became a legendary paper products giant and relocated its headquarters to a sprawling complex in Framingham, MA in 1897. For nearly a century, it was the town's largest employer, earning Framingham the nickname "Tag Town".
Dennison was also a pioneer of progressive labor practices, implementing on-site healthcare, kindergartens, and profit-sharing programs well before they became standard.
In 1990, Dennison merged with Avery International Corporation to become Avery Dennison.
