Description

World War II-era poster stamp copy of Howard Chandler Christy's "I Am an American!" billboard artwork created to celebrate "I Am an American Day" on May 18, 1941 in New York City's Central Park. Stamp bears an image of a young woman, "Columbia", wearing a laurel wreath, holding a torch and a book, with the American flag drapped around her. It is inscribed "To the Spirit of America" with the artist's signature.
