xxxv, 1044 pages, [2] leaves of plates : illustrations (some color), portraits ; 29 cm, John Cogswell was born in Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, England in 1592 and died in Ipswich, Mass. in 1669. Ca. 1615, he married the Elizabeth, daughter of Rev. William Thompson-vicar of Westbury from 1603-1623. The Cogswells, a family of nine at the time, emigrated to Boston in 1635 and settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts. John and Elizabeth had thirteen children, three of which probably died young. Their descendants include Cogswell, Brown, Burnham, Clark, Johnson, Morgan, Smith, Soper and related families.
