Gorget-style necklace made from central enamel pendant set in a silver frame with gold embellishments. Gorget is suspended on a Japanese silk braided cord with a silver and gold handmade hook and eye clasp. Enamel plaque marked on back by Matsukata with year (numbers reversed). Silver frame stamped with hallmarks on back and on clasp.

"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": Born in Tokyo, Miyé Matsukata studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, before opening Janiyé, her Boston studio, with Alexandra Watkins and Nancy Michel in the 1950s.Their work exemplifies the modern studio jewelry movement in America. Watkins completed the silver frame after Matsukata's unexpected death in 1981.
