This subseries consists of glass plate negatives organized by subject. The original subject titles that Brown's relatives assigned have been maintained. Subjects are varied and focus on landscape, architecture, and human and animal life. The sections titled "Portraits" and "Portraits of Women" contain both individual and group portraits and often place the human subjects in the larger context of their environment and surroundings. Some negatives show individuals in their work environments. Examples include: a man beside his boat, a woman feeding chickens, and a basket maker with a basket strapped to his back. Also included in this subseries are formal portraits of individuals that appear to have been members of the Wampanoag tribe. The section titled "Animals" consists of images of domestic animals and pets such as horses, sheep, dogs, and cats. "Buildings" consists of negatives of both identified and unidentified buildings and includes an image of the Old Indian Meeting House in Mashpee, Massachusetts.
