Great Elm, Boston Common

Description

This item depicts a full detailed view of the famed Great Elm on Boston Common. The tree stood for centuries and was a well known location for both civic corporal punishment and later, recreation in the 1800s. The Great Elm was destroyed in a storm in 1876. The dome of the State House can be seen above the trees.
