This collection contains 679 film negatives, which capture early New England architecture (interior and exterior) such as colonial homes, meeting houses, town halls, churches, taverns, etc., as well as street and landscape views of urban and rural areas, and burial grounds. Most of the negatives were captured in Massachusetts and some in New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Maryland, England.

Annie Haven Thwing (1851-1940) was a historian and author who conducted extensive research on the history and geography of Boston, Massachusetts and other areas in New England. This collection contains Twings film negatives, which capture early New England architecture (interior and exterior) such as colonial homes, meeting houses, town halls, churches, taverns, etc., as well as street and landscape views of urban and rural areas. Most of the negatives were captured in Massachusetts and some in New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Maryland, England.

Annie Haven Thwing (1851-1940) was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Her father was Supply Clapp Thwing (1798-1877), and her mother was Ann Shapley Haven (1819-1856). Census records indicate that she never married. She was a historian and author who conducted extensive research on the history and geography of Boston, Massachusetts and other areas in New England. Some of Her notable works include the 1899 childrens book Chicken Little, an index of 125,000 catalog cards titled Inhabitants and estates of the town of Boston (located at the Massachusetts Historical Society), and the 1920 book The Crooked & Narrow Streets of the Town of Boston 1630-1822. She passed away in 1940, at 88 years old, in Roxbury, Massachusetts and was buried at the Forest Hills Cemetery and Crematory in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
Arranged in alphabetical order based on location. After the initial processing of this collection, other negatives were found and some items were rearranged, which altered the alphabetical and numerical order of the series/file parts.
