Interior stereoview photograph of the "Halifax Tragedy House," Halifax, Mass., showing the scene of the murder of Simeon Sturtevant. This house, located at 526 Thompson Road in Halifax, was the scene of a gruesome triple murder in February 1874. William Sturtevant was eventually tried and hanged for the murder of his two great-uncles, Thomas and Simeon Sturtevant, and their maid, Mary Buckley. It was said that the motive was money. See trial updates from the New York Times published during the month of July 1874, searchable online. Also, the Whitman Hanson Express ran a four part series on the murder and investigation in 2009, available at whitmanhansonexpress.com.

J.H. Williams of South Scituate, Mass., was the photographer for Plymouth County at the time of the murders. Williams acted as the crime scene photographer for the case and later made these images into stereo views, possibly for purchase. See GUSN 259092 for a stereo view of the exterior of the house.
