Description

Blank certificate of deposit issued by the Confederate States of America Depositary. Certificate is dated April 2nd, 1864, but the actual certificate itself is not filled out and/or given a specific date. Contains with blanks for No., amount, and signature of depositary. Certificate reads, "The holder of this certificate is entitled to [amount] dollars in Treasury Notes, issued by authority of the Act of Congress of February 17th 1864 on its presentation at this Office in Exchange for Notes of Old Issues, this day deposited." Also contains an illustration of the Confederate flag ona shield surrounded by drums, wreaths, and weaponry.
