Description

This series consists of exhibition catalogues, pamphlets, scholarly articles, auction catalogues, and other publications collected by Nina Fletcher Little. They reflect Little's interest in many forms of American art, and likely were used as reference and research tools for Little's own scholarly work. The exhibition catalogues also document the many loans Nina and Bertram Little made to museums. The Littles' daughter, Selina Fletcher Little, made note of her parents' loaned items in the front of many of the exhibition catalogues in this series. Researchers interested in the loans the Littles made to museums should also consult the Loans series, the Exhibitions series, and the Elena Sarni Project series.

Nina F. Little arranged these publications by subject matter and stored them in fifteen document boxes. She labeled these boxes with the following categories: Decorative Arts and Furnishings; Individual Artists; Ceramics; Architecture; Local History; American Fine Art Paintings; and American Folk Art Paintings and Sculptures. Little's seven categories form the subseries described below. In the current arrangement, the division of Nina F. Little's fifteen boxes has been preserved and copies of her original box labels have been retained.

In addition to the catalogues and other publications organized by Nina Fletcher Little, her daughter, Selina Fletcher Little, gathered similar items - exhibition catalogues as well as auction catalogues - from elsewhere in her mother's papers, and determined that they should be incorporated into this series. Most of these publications were incorporated into the seven subseries according to their subject, but the descriptions below make clear which publications were part of Nina F. Little's arrangement and which were incorporated by Selina F. Little. A handful of publications that did not fit into the seven categories were given their own subseries, "Additional Publications."
