Description

Portfolio containing unbound book. Portfolio has brown fabric and leather front cover with beige fabric ties; back cover and spine are missing. Front cover has "Domestic" handwritten on a label; however, this does not relate to the content of the portfolio. Therefore, it is assumed that portfolio was used for storage only. Unbound book is part of the second volume of "Dictionnaire de l'Ameublement et de la Decoration depuis le XIIIeme siecle jusqu'a nos jours" by Henry Havard, published in four volumes from 1887-1890. Pages are extremely fragile and brittle; some are out of order. Several plates from the volume are present; these show evidence of water and mildew damage. It is assumed that this volume was part of the design library of A. H. Davenport, Irving and Casson, or their successor Irving and Casson - A. H. Davenport Co.
