Program Volunteer, Phillips House

Phillips House is the only home on historic Chestnut Street in Salem, Massachusetts, that is open to the public. It provides a glimpse into the private world of the Phillips family and their domestic staff during the early decades of the twentieth century. The kitchen, pantry, and a domestic-staff bedroom present a rarely seen picture of how great houses functioned as new technologies were introduced.

Opportunity: Phillips House hosts public programs including an ice cream social, antique car meet, and Haunted Happenings events. Volunteer duties include welcoming guests, setting up chairs, serving refreshments, answering questions, informing guests about Historic New England and the benefits of membership, and assisting the site manager as needed. Training will be provided. Successful candidates will be subject to a background check.

Skills and Qualifications: The ideal volunteer is reliable, friendly, enjoys interacting with the public, and has strong customer service skills. Enthusiasm for history is a plus.

To Apply: Please fill out a volunteer information sheet and send it to PhillipsHouse@HistoricNewEngland.org
