Video: Volunteers prepare Phillips House for holiday season

Dec 3, 2018

Volunteers with the Collections Care Corps cleaned glass, ceramics, and silver in the Phillips House dining room in preparation for the holiday season.

Historic New England’s Volunteer Collections Care Corps meets about once a month to take on collections projects such as cleaning and housekeeping. This month, they cleaned objects at Phillips House in Salem, Massachusetts, in preparation for the Christmas Tea and Santa in Salem events. Volunteers washed dishes, wiped down silverware and lights, and vacuumed the tablecloth in the dining room. Many of the objects date back to when the Phillips family lived in the house in the early twentieth century.

Objects Conservator Michaela Neiro, Museum Operations Manager Melinda Huff, and Mellon Conservation Fellow Megan Creamer led the team of seven volunteers. Learn more about volunteering with Historic New England.
