Although established in the early twentieth century, the principles of the Bauhaus philosophy continue to be relevant today. When the Gropius House was built in 1938, it incorporated many design strategies such as climate control, green or sustainable design, and conservation of resources. All of these topics have returned to importance in the 21st century.
The design of Gropius House is consistent with Bauhaus philosophies of simplicity, functionality, economy, geometry, and aesthetic beauty determined by materials rather than applied ornamentation.
Visit Gropius House to discover more. The house is open for guided tours Thursdays through Sundays. The first tour starts at 11:00 a.m., the last tour starts at 3:00 p.m. Advance tickets are recommended.
