Third graders travel back to colonial times at Coffin House

Fifty-five third-grade students from theHorace Mann Laboratory School in Salem, Massachusetts, recently visited the 1678 CoffinHouse in Newbury to participate in Historic New England’s ColonialTimes school program. The previous day, our education staffhad visited them at their school to talk about the Coffin family and preparethem for their field trip. During the two-hour visit to the house, studentsmade butter, spun wool, examined gravestones, discussed sleeping arrangements,and played games. As she was boarding the bus to go back to school, one girl exclaimed, “I actually had fun today!”
