See “White on White” at AVA Gallery

Apr 16, 2014

White on White: Churches of Rural New England, a Historic New England exhibition featuring photographs by renowned architectural photographer Steve Rosenthal, continues its tour of regional venues when it opens at the AVA Gallery and Art Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on April 25.

Rosenthal’s luminous black and white photographs of iconic New England churches capture the effect of light on three-dimensional forms and the intrinsic beauty of the architecture, while creating a world of rich order and rational light.

The accompanying book includes eighty of Rosenthal’s photographs along with an essay by Verlyn Klinkenborg and an afterword by Robert Campbell. The hard cover, 14” x 12”, 136-page volume is available online for $85.

In addition to White on White, Historic New England and the AVA Gallery recently collaborated on a documentary film chronicling the reinvention of the latter’s building from the H.W. Carter and Sons denim factory to a thriving contemporary art center. Learn more.
