Colonial Day

Experience Colonial life at three seventeenth-century house museums

In Newbury

Students explore Colonial life in authentic settings as they visit Coffin House, Swett-Ilsley House, and Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm as well as the Newbury Common.

During the program, they learn about first period architecture and food traditions as they draw Coffin House and then make butter in the historic buttery. At Swett-Ilsley House, students experience a one-room schoolhouse and learn about colonial trades while spinning wool.
