Ocean State Mementos program a great success

On March 28, Historic New England Associate Curator Laura Johnson presented Ocean State Mementos: Jewelry from Rhode Island at the historic Governor Henry Lippitt House Museum in Providence, Rhode Island.

Fifty fans turned out to hear about the history of jewelry in Rhode Island and the role Rhode Island played in American jewelry production. The presentation highlighted pieces from Historic New England’s extensive jewelry collection that were treasured by Rhode Island families or produced in Rhode Island, and also presented new research on the Ocean State’s jewelry industry.

The event was co-sponsored by Historic New England and Preserve Rhode Island. Due to the great reception for the program, Historic New England plans to schedule another presentation.
