Historic New England staff members Ben Haavik, Julie Solz, and Carl R. Nold presented a keynote address at The Artifact, Its Context, and Their Narrative: Multidisciplinary Conservation in Historic House Museums, a joint conference of ICOM-DEMHIST and three ICOM-CC Working Groups at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
Their presentation, Collaboration and Preservation: Historic New England and the Proactive Preservation Interpretation and Planning Process (PPIP), shares Historic New England’s collaborative approach in deciding our interpretive agenda for each property.
DEMHIST, the international historic house committee for the International Council of Museums (ICOM), is an international forum for debating problems and solutions particular to the conservation and management of historic house museums. Considering the artistic, architectural, cultural, and social wealth present in historic houses, the committee organizes conferences to address these issues common to all kinds of historic house museums, and publishes the results in order to give its members a professional platform for sharing their ideas, as well as to disseminate as widely as possible the solutions reached in order to increase their effectiveness.
