Historic New England participates in Salem Farmers’ Market

This year, Historic New England’s Phillips House participates in the Salem Farmers’ Market. “We love having Historic New England at the market making connections to the town’s historic past. Salem was first authorized to hold a weekly market over 350 years ago and they help us fulfill our slogan ‘Get a Taste of History at the Salem Farmers’ Market,’” says Jennifer Bell, executive director of Salem Main Streets.

For the Phillips House staff, the market is an opportunity to share information about the Phillips House and Historic New England. Each week, the staff feature a “gadget of the week,” give out Historic New England tattoos and stickers to children, sell memberships and kitchen history books, and promote tours and programs.

The Salem Farmers’ Market features more than thirty vendors. More than 30,000 people visited the market in 2009, and more are expected in 2010. The market continues through October, every Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Derby Square.
