Gov. John Langdon House names first artist-in-residence

Jun 30, 2016

This summer, visitors to Governor John Langdon House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, can get an inside look at an artist’s process. Historic New England and the New England Sculptors Association (NESA) just announced that sculptor Amanda Sisk is the first artist-in-residence at the 1784 Georgian mansion.

Amanda is an award-winning sculptor with extensive figurative sculpting experience. In the United States and in Italy, she learned to sculpt as artists did in the 1800s. She has exhibited widely, and her work can be found in private collections, museums, and public venues. She was also artist-in-residence for two seasons at Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, New Hampshire.

Amanda’s studio will be open to Langdon House visitors from Fridays through Sundays, August 5 to 28, during regular museum hours. Stop by and see how she uses research into the history of Langdon House to generate a new sculpture. Meet Amanda during Art ’Round Town at Langdon House on August 5 and September 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., or participate in one of her workshops for people of all skill levels.

Historic New England and NESA will auction Amanda’s work in September to help raise awareness and funds to support the artist-in-residence program.

Last year, Historic New England and NESA teamed up to bring an exhibition of contemporary sculpture to Langdon House. Admission to Langdon House includes access to both the exhibition gallery and a tour of the house. Plan your visit.
