Senior Curator of Collections Nancy Carlisle, who retired after 35 years with Historic New England, has been a leading advocate for the expansion of collections and for the creation of initiatives to save and share New England’s stories. To honor her work and commitment to collect artifacts and archival materials that share the multitude of stories of New England’s past and present, the Nancy Carlisle Collections Acquisition and Care Fund has been established to support the purchase of objects from contemporary artists, crafters, makers, and communities to ensure our collections are expansive, inclusive, and accessible to everyone.
Historic New England’s collections are at the heart of our site experiences, public programs, and research. As reflected in our strategic agenda, The New England Plan, our mission is to save and share New England’s stories and we are committed to growing our archival and artifact collections to reflect the diversity of the New England region. We know that our ability to tell inclusive and holistic stories cannot rely solely on passive collecting but rather requires active collecting where we seek collaboration with new communities, artists, and makers.
