Description

Sent by the Secretary of War WM. Belknap, this letter summarizes the advantages of a canal between Cape Cod Bay and Buzzards Bay. Following Belknap's letter, the Chief of Engineers, General A. A. Humphreys sent letter describing the history of the canal and estimating the construction time and costs associated with it. Lastly, there is a letter from a member of the Board of Internal Improvement regarding another reconnaissance trip to Cape Cod area before the construction begins on the canal.
