Weyerhaeuser, currently the world's largest seller of timber, was founded in 1900 by Frederick Weyerhaeuser in Tacoma Washington. After emigrating to America from Germany, Weyerhaeuser briefly worked as a brewer before switching to the timber industry. He quickly rose up the ranks of the lumber mill, eventually purchasing the mill from its previous owner after its failure in the panic of 1857. After that he continued to amass timber land with his brother-in-law, Frederick Denkmann, as his business partner. In 1900 he purchased 900,000 acres of timberland in Tacoma Washington, and founded the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company. The company flourished, and continued to grow after his death in 1914. Still in existence today, Weyerhaeuser sells timber, pulp, paper, packing materials, and other wood related products.
