Correspondence re: commissions


Series II, Correspondence, 1904-1935 (#1.7-1.17), contains unsolicited marketing and promotional materials from building material manufacturers; correspondence regarding Hanson's requests for catalogues and information from building material manufacturers; correspondence between Hanson and B.L. Makepeace, a supplier of drawing materials; correspondence between Henry Davis Sleeper (1878-1914) and Hanson; and other letters sent and received by Hanson with other individuals and companies. The letters and marketing/ promotional materials from building material manufacturers, reflect the supplies and products that were in use during Hanson's career; how the materials and products were marketed; and what items Hanson was interested in using. Correspondence between Hanson and Sleeper dates from 1908 to the time of Sleeper's death in 1934. Most of the correspondence between the two men focuses on the construction of Sleeper's home, Beauport; some letters discuss other commissions on which the two men collaborated. The letters contain personal comments of both men and provide insight into their relationship and the role that Beauport played in each of their lives. Also included are letters relating to the Estate of Henry Davis Sleeper and the settling of Hanson's accounts with the estate. The series is arranged alphabetically by name or topic, and thereunder chronologically.
