Description

Naval cutwork picture. Elaborately cut paper border with corner medallions of abstract flowers. Center border with circular medallion. Centered at top and bottom is a double bird motif. Remainder of border is cut scrolled leaves on vine and circular border. Center motif has background of navy paper. Applied on top is white paper cut-out entitled "Unfortunate Sailor 1840." Above, cut-out of sailor on raft in ocean. Holds harpoon with American flag at top end. In background are three small ships. Surmounted by spread eagle holding flag in beak, surrounded by colored cut-outs of blue flowers and green leaves. Molded gilt wood frame. Matted on white paper.
