Delftware jug with light blue glaze and blue decoration. The jug is bowl shaped on a splayed foot, with a short, slightly flared spout, winged cherubs bearing flower branches perched at corners depicted on body. Metal lid of Delft jar.
Loaned to Fitchburg Art Museum, September 2000 through September 2002. Exhibition: Ceramics: Art, Industry and Craft.
"S.C. AUR.t."" [probably an abbreviation for ""Conserva Auriantium"": conserve of the Seville or bitter orange; it was made from fresh oranges with three times the quantity of white sugar and was used as a tonic.] (Painted in underglaze on body)
