Description

This lidded spherical compote is made of colorless flint glass pressed in a mold. The lid is topped with a deeply notched ball knop. The body rests on a ribbed stem that terminates in a circular foot also decorated with a set of oval impressions. Both lid and body are decorated with repeating oval patterns that resemble thumbprints, giving this style its name. The style was meant to approximate expensive cut glass.
