Description

Small leather covered box with hinged and locking domed lid. Exterior covered with leather decorated with tooled or burnt stylized flowers and geometric designs. There is a metal handle on the lid and a metal lock on the front. The box has one leather hinge and one metal hinge. The interior is lined with newsprint, marblized book paper, and three wall paper fragments. Glued into the lid is a scrap of paper with elaborate calligraphy. It reads, "Samuel F. Swett May 31, 1773." The outermost paper lining the lid is a floral stripe wallpaper stenciled in pink and block printed in black and white on gray ground dated to 1760-1773.
