Label

In Cherished Possessions 2003-2005: No other sample gravestones, besides this one by Noah Pratt, Jr., are known. Its small size meant it was easily transportable and presumably was used by Pratt to show potential customers the quality of his carving. Stone carving, like many crafts, ran in families. Noah Pratt, Jr.'s father was also a stone carver, as were his two brothers, and his son. The Pratt family was from Abington, Massachusetts. Noah, Jr., moved to the coastal town of Freeport, Maine, about 1781. Several burial grounds in Freeport and the nearby town of Brunswick bear witness to Noah Pratt, Jr.'s activities as a stone carver.

Inscription

Carved in the front is: (the alphabet up to the letter) Q/1787/Noah Pratt . On two jelly labels on the back of the stone one reads: Owned by/Mrs. B.K. Little/305 Warren St./Brookline/Mass. The other reads: From Pleasant Hill/Freeport Me.
