Black-and-white photograph of two Wiiliam and Mary-style arm chairs. The first, a very ornate chair, has arched crest rail; conforming lower back rail; rectangular caned back panel with arched top enclosed by carved stiles; elaborately turned stiles with carved pineapple finials; caned seat; carved seat rails; turned rear legs; front legs with block, ovoid and ring turnings and bun feet; rear and side stretchers; and large carved front stretcher. Chair features elaborate carving with foliate and scroll motifs on most wood surfaces. Handwritten on page below this chair is: "White House State Dining Rm. (President's Chair)." The second arm chair has rmolded crest rail with concave ends and flaring ears; molded straight stiles; upholstered back; molded curved lower back rail; shaped arms with scrolled handholds; upholstered seat with single row of metal tacks along bottom edge; turned stiles and raked rear legs with block and cylinder turnings; arm supports and front legs with carved trumpet, ovoid and block turnings; carved feet; turned rear and H-stretchers; and molded arched front stretcher with scrolled ends. Also handwritten on page are A. H. Davenport Co. detail numbers 139 and 12561 as well as notes on wood types.
