Scrapbook titled "Chairs Sofas Etc." Scrapbook has brown cloth covering and leather labels affixed to spine. Rectangular labels are printed in gold with title, "No. 4" and "A. H. Davenport Co." Scrapbook contains 310 pages, 197 of which are blank. The materials within this scrapbook show designs for chairs and sofas. A table of contents pasted on the inside front cover includes the following categories: early oak and miscellaneous chairs, oak chairs, walnut and mahogany chairs, walnut and mahogany sofas, Italian and other chairs, colonial chairs, gilt and white chairs, bishops chairs etc., modern chairs, and French chairs and sofas. The bulk of materials are clippings from magazines and other sources of design sketches for specific pieces of furniture, which show multiple views of the piece as well as close-ups of the details. However, there are also general furniture sketches and photographs, including twelve pictures of chairs in the collection of Dr. W. H. Crim. The clippings and photographs are mostly from late 19th and early 20th century Europe and the United States. While most of the contents relate to chairs and sofas, there are a few illustrations of tombstones. There are trace drawings by A. H. Davenport Co. (pages 3, 13, 15, 18, 20, 29, 30, 43-56, 61-64, 75), one of which shows the design of a chair for the White House (44). Model numbers, dates, and one additional client name (Alfred Ivins Croll) are handwritten on drawings. Photographs of furniture made by A. H. Davenport Co. are shown on pages 86-91; some include model numbers, detail, numbers and dates. Half of page 78 is missing and some photographs appear to have been removed. Digital images of a selection of items from the album are attached to this record
