William and Mary-style side chair has arched crest rail; conforming lower back rail; oval caned back panel enclosed by carved sides; columnar turned stiles with large acorn finials; upholstered seat with single row of metal tacks along lower edge; turned rear legs; front legs with ovoid turnings followed by S-shaped double scrolls; turned rear and H-stretchers; and large carved front stretcher. Chair features oversized carving with foliate and scroll motifs on crest and lower back rails, stiles and front stretcher. Some handwritten notes are faintly visible.
