Papers of Joshua Coffin (1732-1774)


Series IX, Papers of Joshua Coffin (1732-1774), 1760-ca.1782, undated (#C.1.57-C.1.61), contains correspondence between Coffin and John Pike regarding purchases made in the West Indies for a sodality organization; financial records comprised of an account sheet and a receipt; and legal documents. The legal documents include Coffin's deeds for land purchases in Newbury in the province of Massachusetts Bay; estate papers relating to the subdivision of Coffin's land among his heirs and his widow, Sarah (Bartlett) Coffin (1732-1798); an indenture regarding Daniel Mitchell, son of John Mitchell, of Wells in the province of Massachusetts Bay; arbitration documents between Ralph Cross and Benjamin Lunt and between John Hale, a tailor, from Boscawen in the province of New Hampshire, and Stephen Hale, a weaver, from Newbury in the province of Massachusetts Bay; and other related legal documents.
