Fabric backed wallpaper sample from "the old paper shop of Mr. Childs" in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Large-scale gilt-figure medallions on grisaille floral swag background pattern. Gilt oval medallions employ multiple neoclassical motifs including scrolling acanthus leaves, quatrefoil rosette, urns, trophies, floral swags and hanging floral basket. The medallions frame two alternating vignettes: one of a woman being pushed on a swing by a man and the other of a man bowing to a curtseying woman. Outside the medallions, the pattern consists of floral swags and ribbon. Block-printed in five shades of gray and white on polished white ground. Gold leaf is applied to embossed areas.
