Description

Fragment of an uncut roll of wallpaper border corners from Lexington, Massachusetts. The corners are large, with one corner per roll width. The fragment includes one full and one partial corner. The corners depict naturalistic, large-scale pink and yellow roses and foliage with intermingling green ribbon against a gray and white background. The corners are block-printed in nine greens, three yellows, two browns, orange, peach, four pinks, red and two gray on white ground.

Inscription

"Her grandfather was early clock maker in Newburyport - / French Beautiful expensive gold leaf papers - / Given me by Miss Anna Muzzey / 14 Glen Road / Lexington 73 - Mass--- / Her father in 1840's (?) heard that beautiful w. p. were ? arriving on a ship in Boston - from France - + he bought / the entire lot. He was a merchant in Boston - / The elaborate corner borders are from Miss Muzzey" (Last line added later in felt tip marker.)
