Two long fragments of wallpaper in the "Griffin" pattern. Fragments are mid-nineteenth century reproduction of the late-eighteenth century neoclassical "Griffin" wallpaper by French manufacturer Reveillon (see 1917.145a and b) . In the pattern, a cartouche or shelf figure frames a bowl. Griffins rest on the outstretched arms of the figure. From the figure hangs a ribbon. Two crossed spears are tied up in the ribbon with a bow knot. At the terminus of the ribbon is a hanging urn with fruit and foliage. The pattern is roller-printed in brown, gray, blue, green and metallic gold on salmon ground. Waterhouse Wallhangings produced a reproduction of this paper in the 1970s (see 2001.281.749).
