Description

Unused sample of reproduction wallpaper in the "Monmouth" pattern by Waterhouse Wallhangings, Inc. Paper has a large-scale pattern of floral swags and garlands. Roller-printed. Swags enclose three vignettes: a shepherdess holding a crook; sheep; and two cows by a tree. Two colorways are present: 2001.281.756.1 -- Brown, blue and white on a pink ground; and 2001.281.756.2 -- Brown, blue and white on a gray ground. Pattern is based on a French wallpaper dating from 1760-1770 that was found lining a trunk in a Monmouth, Maine abandoned farmhouse.
