Description

Series XII, General and Unassignable Materials, consists of a large and diverse collection of materials that document everyday life in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Financial records include invoices from merchants in Boston and the Wiscasset area, and document the purchase of household goods and food, dishes and silverware, furniture (including a stove, wallpaper, and carpets), jewelry, clothing, hardware, and the like. Payment for goods and services related to construction and repairs, interior decorating, landscape work, and installation of water, sewer, and electrical service are also documented. A variety of printed ephemera is in this series, including advertisements and related promotional items, greeting cards, calendars, and souvenir pamphlets and booklets.
